FUNKequipment - the opinionated bags’ collection - is born and divides the customers into 2 camps: Lover & Hater. Some say this is completely different from all the same looking stuff and some say that they never saw uglier bags like these…
The collection has a little secret and you should discover it when looking into the mirror. FUNK fans know what I mean. ;-P
In February the famous FUNK-party becomes the official ISPO-party (ISPO-the worlds´ biggest sports fair) and usually there are about 2500 people celebrating.
2003
FUNK starts with extreme styles (with models like HORNY, SCUM, PERVERT) and with very sporty and good fitting glasses (SPECTER, HECK).
On the ISPO fair in August FUNK was proud to present the first shot of the extremely provocative shirt collection of FUNKwear. In some countries FUNK is not allowed to export it…
Also the first styles for kids were presented. These are a "shrunken” version of the glasses for adults in unobtrusive colours. Children love them.
2004
The 1980ies with big and colourful pilot styles are back. FUNK started with these kind of styles a long time ago but now they became trendy.
On the OPTI fair in Munich, the FUNKcrew successfully presented 5 new models of the optical line FUNKroyaloptics. Since the ISPO fair in February FUNK is also available in another 7 countries (GB, IR, FI, Estonia, the Be-Ne-Lux countries). The official FUNK-ISPO-PARTY was - of course - again the highlight of the fair.
2005
FUNK goes back to the 1920ies with very classic styles. The collection is called "Chicago Mafia style” with models like La Famiglia, Brusk 1-3, Missing. But also the 1950ies inspired Mr. Funk. He invented glasses inspired by Marilyn Monroe called Tussi, Crumpet and Broad de Luxe. A lot of new optical frames were created - from massive to retro to metal/acetate combinations. It is a journey back in time, from the golden 1920s to the 1950s to the funky 70s and the weird 1980s. In July the FUNKstore was opened in in the center of Munich. A small shop with character coloured in red and white.
2006
New FUNKsunglasses models - in acetate - come out: Models with names like BEAST, GRAND DUKE and DYNASTY which are a tribute to the soap operas from the 1980s i.e. Dallas, Falcon Crest and Dynasty. Another ten new FUNKsunglasses styles followed right up and also eight new FUNKroyal optics styles were presented on the SILMO show in Paris at the end of October. At the beginning of May2006 our flag ship FUNKstore Berlin opened its doors in the very touristy area in the heart of Berlin: Oranienburger Str. 87. The FUNKroyal line, optic and sunglasses, succeed more than expected.
2007
The year 2007 starts with the OPTI show in Munich and FUNK presents again a variety of new optical styles in chic retro style. FUNK loves to travel in a time machine and absorb the style of the 1950s and 1960s and interpret this in the presence. Of course the legendary party took place in the club "8 Seasons” in the very centre of Munich with a breath-taking view. This time in cooperation with one of the biggest lens suppliers HOYA. At the end of Oct the international FUNKcrew met in Paris to exhibit on the SILMO fair. More new FUNKstyles have been introduced to the international audience with a lot of positive feedback. If you think of massive and authentic frames - you have to think of FUNK. After the fair FUNK entered the UK market. Our official FUNK distributor runs 3 stylish optical stores in the UK. On Saturday our French distributor organised a perfect party for our clients and the press in the famous club THE WAGG in St. Germain in which Jim Morrison spent his last hours before he died. What a night !
End of November we did a big photoshooting with the international known photographer Tobias Gromatzki from Hamburg with the people from the FUNKheadquarter home village Kinsau (around 70 km south-west of Munich). 2 professional makeup artists and stylists changed the people sometimes totally in a different person so that they did not recognised themselves. The result was a lot of fun and amazing pictures in the typical FUNKroyal style "REAL FUNK FOR REAL PEOPLE”. These pictures are used in POS material for the FUNKclients and press as well.
2008
We start again with the 1st show - the OPTI in Munich and our party sponsored by Hoya lenses and the OPTI organisation in the Muffathalle in the centre of Munich. 2000 people enjoyed the funky life band from Switzerland JAMES BROWN tribute band. Amazing how 10 musicians can boost the crowd. Of course the 8 DJs on 3 floors, too.
In February we celebrated the opening of our optical store in the FUNKheadquarter in Kinsau with a lot of local people. In April our optical store in Munich moved into a more frequented location in Munich-Schwabing Akademiviertel. There are the biggest universities around and also a lot of nice stores and cafés.
On the SILMO show end of October we introduced a lot of new FUNKroyal models and also the world premiere of the new collection "SASHEE SCHUSTER daddycated eyewear” took place in Paris. This collection is dedicated to the father Rupert Schuster from the designer SASHEE SCHUSTER and to all daddies in the world as well and presents the spirit and style of the good old times consequently. This collection is made in Germany.
The year 2008 the collection FUNKroyal is inspired of the so called NERD style which means massive retro optical frames new interprated in the presence.
2009
Same procedure as every year ... starting with the OPTI show in Munich. This time with a world premiere of the new collection FUNK FOOD, a consumer brand which is always fresh. That means good price/performance sunglasses in the latest trend in fashionable colours. Starting with 12 different style in 3 to 4 colours. FUNK FOOD is delivered either in a kind of freshness box or in a hard case covered with Jeans. Over 2.500 opticians and the munich party scene celebrated the FUNK FOOD party on an island in the river Isar - the Praterinsel - which is a very nice location in the centre of munich. The sponsor logos were projected on the complete building outside and inside including the river and spectacular illuminations changed the location inside in different worlds. The rockabilly band from Switzerland "HI GRIP” created the suitable backround for the burlesque show of 2 ladies who looked like the former star from the 50s Betty Page or Dita van Teesen nowadays.
FUNK is not exhibiting on the MIDO show in Milan but at the same time there will be a hotel show in the design hotel STRAF around 50 meters away from the Duomo and the metro station. We will present our latest creations in a nice, relaxed and unique atmosphere to our international clients.
FUNKeyewear has been and will be the brand for individualists and trend setters. FUNK continues to set trends and stays with its innovative design and materials the signpost in the business.
